There are seven to eight million Muslims in the United States


A US Muslim group has said its members would monitor suspicious activity in their community to help fight the Bush administration's "war against terrorism".



"We have zero tolerance to the notion that Muslims are not doing their job. We're not going to allow that," said on Friday Mahir Hathut, senior adviser for the Muslim Public Affairs Council during a press conference at the Islamic Center of Southern California in Los Angeles.

"Things are being said about Muslims that nobody could say about any other religion in America and get away with it," he added.

Under the campaign, Muslims will watch for suspicious or dangerous behaviour and report it to authorities. American mosques will remain open to all Muslims, but administrators will keep track of who organises meetings and for what purpose.

Praise

City, county and federal officials who participated in the press conference praised the efforts. They said that while all Americans were being asked to look out for suspicious activity, cooperation from the Muslim community was especially crucial.

"Within the Islamic community, they are going to know much better who is suspicious and who is not," said John Miller, who heads homeland security operations for the Los Angeles Police Department. "The best information we can get about the fringe in the Muslim community will be from the Muslims."

Hathut said the campaign was launched primarily in reaction to the recent announcement by Attorney General John Ashcroft that al-Qaida might be 90% prepared for a "terrorist attack" in the United States later this year.

'False notion'

"The danger is quite imminent," Hathout said. "But we'd like to end the false notion that Muslims are a specimen to be studied or a community to be investigated. We are full-fledged participants in the fight against terrorism in America."

Increasing tensions over terrorism can lead to hate crimes against Muslims, noted Steven Gomez, the FBI's top counter-terrorism agent in Los Angeles.

"We want to assure all communities that the FBI is prepared to fight all hate crimes that might come up over the next few months," Gomez said.

Sarah al-Tantawi, the group's communications director, stressed the campaign was "not a public relations campaign. This is a very serious effort designed to protect our community, our nation from attack."

After 35 years hosting a talk radio show I’ve become habituated to being labeled as everything but a child of God. Offensive? Certainly, sometimes. Insensitive? You bet! Guilty as charged. Life is insensitive, so is the truth. I don’t hide from either.

Well, this column ought to certainly stir the puddin’. I wish to make an observation that I dare say most of you are going to find both offensive and insensitive. I really don’t expect to make any friends here, but I may just cause a few people to think for a few minutes.

One day in the late 1970’s I asked my listeners to call and tell me what they thought was the most important thing that they had learned listening to talk radio. At some point during that show a caller turned the tables. He asked me to share the most important thing I had learned hosting a talk show. My self-editing mechanisms were on the blink that day – not an unusual situation – so I immediately blurted out the first thing that came to mind. I told the caller that the most amazing thing I had learned was how truly stupid the American people are. Sorry folks. It’s was just the first thing that came to my mind. Maybe it would have been better if I has said “obtuse” instead of “stupid.” At least then the truly stupid ones wouldn’t have understood, and I might have kept a few listeners.

Well, sad to say, not much has happened in the twenty-something years since that particular program to change my opinion. While it’s no longer true for the bulk of talk radio listeners, I’m afraid it still stands as true for the rest. The majority of Americans can’t tell you who the vice president is. Not two out of ten Americans could tell you the name of their two U.S. Senators and their congressman. Examples are plenteous. Most Americans, for instance, actually think that the United States is supposed to be a democracy. It’s not. New Mexico, by the way, IS a state.

My opinion was reinforced last week when I heard that a Fox News Opinion Dynamics poll found that a huge majority of Americans think that our economy is growing worse. What have they been smoking? Our economy grew at a 4.4% rate during the first quarter of 2004, and these people think it’s in the tank? Employment numbers are up. Manufacturing is up. Government revenue is up. Incomes are up. Home sales are up. Home ownership is at record levels. Poverty is down. The truth is that our economy is doing amazingly well … and poised to do even better; yet the majority of Americans don’t realize this? The forecast for economic growth for the current quarter is between 4.5 and 5%. With these numbers, how do you say our economy is doing poorly? Maybe it’s because so many of these people rely on Entertainment Tonight for their daily news. You do know, don’t you, that more Americans get their news from Entertainment Tonight than from any other single news source.

Let’s cut to the chase. I’ve come to the reluctant but inescapable conclusion that about 50% of the adults in this country are simply too ignorant and functionally incompetent to be living in a free society. They have enthusiastically abandoned their sovereignty to the lure of the welfare state. They are, in fact, afraid to be free. They have no working concept of the responsibilities of individuals who would live free of government tyranny or mob rule. Their ignorance renders them incapable of coping with the responsibilities of liberty. These are people who cannot exist at anything other than a basic level without someone else stepping forward to take care of them. They’re adult children. They need to and deserve to live in a dictatorship, hopefully, for their sake, benevolent.

The real problem here is that the rest of us are constantly suffering encroachments on our own freedoms to provide for the survival of the ignorant. We’re forced to invest (if that’s the word) 15% of our paychecks into a disability insurance and retirement plan that would constitute criminal activity in every one of the 50 states were it not run by government. We must do this, we’re told, because there are just too many people out there who aren’t bright enough to do it on their own. We’re facing the inevitability of socialized medicine. As soon as the social Democratic party gets its way, with no small amount of help from the Republicans, Americans will be waiting months -- if not years – for basic elective surgery. Private citizens will be sent to jail for trying to find a private doctor to treat their ills outside of the approved and official government plan. Freedoms are being lost because of political pandering to those unable to cope.

Solutions? You want solutions? Look, I just came here today to grumble. I’m just tired of seeing rampant widespread stupidity tear down the greatest attempt at self-government in the history of world civilization. Maybe a separation of government and education might help. Perhaps we could restrict voting privileges to those who have a clue. There’s certainly nothing in our Constitution that would prohibit that. One thing is for certain, as the ranks of the clueless increase, as more and more Americans opt for security over freedom, as more people surrender their individuality for the ease of running with the mob, the erosion of the liberties, social and economic, that made this country what it is will proceed apace.

Maybe it’s just time for a good escape plan.

Recently translated documents captured by U.S. forces provide new evidence of a direct link between Saddam Hussein's regime and the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States.

Rosters of officers in Saddam's Fedayeen list Lt. Col. Ahmed Hikmat Shakir, who was present at the January 2000 al-Qaida "summit" in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, at which the 9-11 attacks were planned, the Wall Street Journal reports.


The Fedayeen was the elite paramilitary group run by Saddam's son Uday, which was deployed to do much of the regime's dirty work.

The U.S. has never been sure Shakir was at the Kuala Lumpur meeting on behalf of Saddam's regime or whether he was an Iraqi Islamist on his own, the Journal notes.

The paper cautions, however, it is possible the Shakir listed on the rosters is not the Iraqi of the same name with proven al-Qaida connections.

But sources tell the Journal the authenticity of the three Fedayeen rosters is not in question. Coalition forces have found millions of documents that still are being sorted, translated and absorbed, the paper said.

Reported accounts of the al-Qaida planning summit said Shakir had a job at the Kuala Lumpur airport he obtained through an Iraqi intelligence agent at the Iraqi embassy.

Among the al-Qaida operatives in attendance were the two who flew American Airlines Flight 77 into the Pentagon – Khalid al Midhar and Nawaz al Hamzi – and Ramzi bin al Shibh, the operational planner of the 9-11 attacks.

Also in attendance was Tawfiz al Atash, a high-ranking Osama bin Laden lieutenant and mastermind of the USS Cole bombing.

Shakir left Malaysia four days after the summit finished, Jan. 13, 2000, then turned up in Qatar, where he was arrested Sept. 17, 2001, four days after the attacks.

A search uncovered phone numbers of the 1993 World Trade Center bombers' safe houses and contacts and information related to a 1995 al-Qaida plot to blow up a dozen commercial airliners over the Pacific.

But Shakir, inexplicably, was released after a brief detention and flew to Amman, Jordan, where he was arrested again. The Jordanians released him, however, with the OK of the CIA, after pressure from the Iraqis and Amensty International.

He was last seen returning to Baghdad.

Noting the volume of evidence, the Journal said, "One of the mysteries of postwar Iraq is why the Bush Administration and our $40-billion-a-year intelligence services haven't devoted more resources to probing the links between Saddam's regime and al-Qaida."

The current official U.S. intelligence conclusion is that Saddam's regime was not involved in supporting the Sept. 11 attacks.

A new book by Stephen Hayes of the Weekly Standard, "The Connection," puts together the evidence of Saddam's ties to al-Qaida.

"The Baathists killing U.S. soldiers are clearly working with al-Qaida now," the Journal says. "Saddam's files might show us how they linked up in the first place."

As Geostrategy-Direct reported, new evidence about a meeting in Prague between Sept. 11 plot leader Mohamed Atta and Iraqi intelligence officer Ahmad Khalil Ibrahim Samir al-Ani has been uncovered. If confirmed, the meeting would indicate a role by Saddam's intelligence service in some level of support for the 9-11 plot.

The information supports other journalists who have uncovered a connection between Iraq and al-Qaida, including Jayna Davis, author of "The Third Terrorist: The Middle Eastern Connection to the Oklahoma City Bombing."

In her book, Davis suggests the Sept. 11 attacks possibly could have been prevented if evidence of an Iraqi and al-Qaida link to the OKC bombing had been pursued.

Davis writes that in November 1997, Hussain Hashem Al-Hussaini – a former Iraqi Republican Guardsman whom multiple eyewitnesses identified as McVeigh's elusive accomplice, John Doe 2 – confided to his psychiatrist that he was anxious about his airport job because "if something were to happen there, I (Al-Hussaini) would be a suspect." At the time, Al-Hussaini was employed at Boston Logan International Airport, where two of the four 9-11 suicide hijackings originated.

She also reveals court records that suggest one of bombers Timothy McVeigh's and Terry Nichols's accused Middle Eastern handlers had foreknowledge of the 9-11 plot.

In addition, Davis discusses information she first uncovered eight years ago – that Nichols learned the macabre genius of terrorist bomb making under the training of Philippines-based al-Qaida explosives expert Ramzi Yousef, the convicted mastermind of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.

In February, columnist and author Jonathan Schanzer wrote in the Weekly Standard of his meeting in a Kurdish prison with Abdul Rahman al-Shamari, who claims he worked for a man who was Saddam's envoy to al-Qaida.

In the interview, al-Shamari confirmed he was involved in assisting Ansar al Islam, an al-Qaida affiliate responsible for attacks against Kurdish and Western targets in northern Iraq. Weapons, "mostly mortar rounds," were supplied to the terrorists, the prisoner told Schanzer.

Besides weapons, al-Shamari says, Saddam's secret police, the Mukhabarat, helped the terror group financially "every month or two months."

In December, Geostrategy-Direct reported Iraqi officers interrogated by the United States and coalition officials said Saddam, through Saudi contacts, had invited al-Qaida insurgents to form suicide and other units to stop the U.S. military in March.

Saddam's contacts with al-Qaida, the officers told interrogators, preceded the Sept. 11 attacks. They said Saudi envoys arranged for al-Qaida insurgents to enter Iraq and begin training in camps around Baghdad.

The al-Qaida insurgents were trained at two camps – Nahrawan and Salman Pak – under the supervision of the Fedayeen Saddam.

Officers said the Salman Pak training included ways to hijack airplanes. Training was conducted under the supervision of an unidentified Iraqi general who is currently a police commander. They said many of the al-Qaida insurgents left Iraq after their training stint.

The London Telegraph reported in December the discovery of a secret memo to Saddam that gives details of a visit by Atta to Baghdad just weeks before the 9-11 attacks. Information obtained by Iraq's coalition goverment indicated Atta was trained in Baghdad by Palestinian terrorist Abu Nidal.

"We are uncovering evidence all the time of Saddam's involvement with al-Qaida," said Dr Ayad Allawi, a member of Iraq's ruling seven-man presidential committee, according to the London paper.

"But this is the most compelling piece of evidence that we have found so far," he said. "It shows that not only did Saddam have contacts with al-Qaida, he had contact with those responsible for the September 11 attacks."

In November, the Weekly Standard reported a 16-page top secret government memo to the Senate Intelligence Committee said bin Laden and Saddam had an operational relationship from the early 1990s to 2003 that involved training in explosives and weapons of mass destruction, as well as financial and logistical support, and may have included the bombing of the USS Cole and the Sept. 11 attacks.

Tests Confirm Sarin Gas in Baghdad Bomb

WASHINGTON - Comprehensive testing has confirmed the presence of the chemical weapon sarin in the remains of a roadside bomb discovered this month in Baghdad, a defense official said Tuesday.


The determination, made by a laboratory in the United States that the official would not identify, verifies what earlier, less-thorough field tests had found: the bomb was made from an artillery shell designed to disperse the deadly nerve agent on the battlefield.


The origin of the shell remains unclear, and finding that out is a priority for the U.S. military, the defense official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity.


Some analysts worry the 155-millimeter artillery shell, found rigged as a bomb on May 15, may be part of a larger stockpile of Iraqi chemical weapons that insurgents can now use. But no more have turned up, and several military officials have said the shell may have been an older one that predated the 1991 Gulf War (news - web sites).


It likewise is not known whether the bombers knew they had a chemical weapon. Military officials have said the shell bore no labels to indicate it was anything except a normal explosive shell, the type used to make scores of roadside bombs in Iraq (news - web sites).


No one was injured in the shell's initial detonation, but two American soldiers who removed the round had symptoms of low-level nerve agent exposure, officials said last week.


The shell was a binary type, which has two chambers containing relatively safe chemicals. When the round is fired from an artillery gun, its rotation mixes the chemicals to create sarin, which is supposed to disperse when the shell strikes its target.


Since it was not fired from a gun but was detonated as a bomb, the initial explosion on May 15 dispersed the precursor chemicals, apparently mixing them in only small amounts, officials said then. In battle, such shells would have to be fired in great numbers to effect a large body of troops.


Iraq's first field-test of a binary-type shell containing sarin was in 1988, U.S. defense officials have said.


Saddam's government only disclosed the testing and production after Iraqi weapons chief Lt. Gen. Hussein Kamel al-Majid, Saddam's son-in-law, defected in 1995. Saddam's government never declared any sarin or shells filled with sarin remained.


Saddam's alleged stockpile of weapons of mass destruction was the Bush administration's chief stated reason for invading Iraq. U.S. weapons hunters have been unable to validate the prewar intelligence.


Some trace elements of mustard agent, an older type of chemical weapon, were detected in an artillery shell found in a Baghdad street this month, U.S. officials said previously. The shell also was believed to be from one of Saddam's old stockpiles.

WASHINGTON (AP) - U.S. officials have obtained new intelligence deemed highly credible indicating al-Qaida or other terrorists are in the United States and preparing to launch a major attack this summer, The Associated Press has learned.

The intelligence does not include a time, place or method of attack but is among the most disturbing received by the government since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, according to a senior federal counterterrorism official who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity Tuesday.

Of most concern, the official said, is that terrorists may possess and use a chemical, biological or radiological weapon that could cause much more damage and casualties than a conventional bomb.

"There is clearly a steady drumbeat of information that they are going to attack and hit us hard," said the official, who described the intelligence as highly credible.

The official declined to provide any specifics about the sources of the information but said there was an unusually high level of corroboration.

Despite that, the official said there was no immediate plan to raise the nation's terrorism threat level from yellow, or elevated, to orange, or high. The threat level has been at yellow - midpoint on the five-color scale - since January.

Attorney General John Ashcroft and FBI Director Robert Mueller plan a news conference Wednesday to outline an intensive effort by law enforcement, intelligence and homeland security officials to detect and disrupt any potential plots. And the FBI plans to dispatch a bulletin to some 18,000 state and local law enforcement agencies warning of the threat.

The FBI also has already created a special task force that is focused solely on dealing with this summer's threat. The task force, whose existence until recently was classified, is intended to ensure that no valuable bits of information or intelligence fall through the cracks - as happened repeatedly before the Sept. 11 attacks.

Other actions to be taken include new FBI interviews with people who may have provided valuable information in the past and a fresh examination of older investigative leads to determine if they might point to elements of the summer plot.

Beginning with Saturday's dedication of the new World War II Memorial in Washington, the summer presents a number of high-profile targets in the United States. They include the G-8 summit in Georgia next month that will attract top officials from some of America's closest allies, the Democratic National Convention in Boston in July and the Republican National Convention in August in New York.

The FBI and Homeland Security Department also are concerned about so-called soft targets such as shopping malls anywhere in the United States that offer a far less protected environment than a political convention hall.

U.S. authorities repeatedly have said al-Qaida is determined to mount an attack on U.S. soil, in part to announce to the world that it remains capable of doing so despite the money and effort that has gone into homeland security in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks.

There also is concern terrorists might try to mount an attack to coincide with the November election. The political fallout from the March 11 train bombings in Spain taught al-Qaida that an attack timed to an election can have a major impact. Spain's former ruling party was ousted in the voting that followed the bombing, which killed 191 and injured more than 2,000.

The official did not say how many suspected al-Qaida or other terrorist operatives are believed in the country, whether they made their way into the United States recently or have been here for some time. The FBI has warned in the past that Islamic extremist groups may attempt to recruit non-Middle Easterners or women for attacks because they would be less likely to arouse suspicion.

Special security attention already is being focused to the nation's rail, subway and bus lines. The FBI last week sent out an intelligence bulletin to law enforcement agencies urging vigilance against suicide bombers, who have been used by terror groups worldwide to devastating effect but not so far in the United States.

Separately, Immigration and Customs Enforcement chief Michael Garcia told reporters Tuesday that some 2,300 of its agents are being deployed to assist in security for the high-profile events scheduled this summer in the United States. These include as many as 20 agents each day working with the Secret Service to protect the campaigns of President Bush and Sen. John Kerry, the Democratic presidential candidate.

Garcia said his agency also is working to "tighten the investigative system" to ensure that terrorists do not enter the United States by way of human smuggling operations or through the vast, largely unprotected border with Canada.

Electability trumps purity in U.S. Senate race

Giddy delegates to the Colorado Democratic Party State Assembly in Pueblo Saturday gave a narrow victory to little-known U.S. Senate candidate Mike Miles over state Attorney General Ken Salazar.

Miles' victory — by a 51 to 49 percent tally — won him the "top-line" position on the August primary ballot. Among wonks of both major parties, top-line listing is considered quite a coup. But there's scant evidence that it sways ordinary voters; it's not like you have to go to the footnotes to find the name of the other candidate, who's listed immediately below, on the, ahem, second line.

In the flush of victory, some in the Miles camp tarred Salazar as "a lifelong politician." One Aurora delegate said Miles deserves the nomination because, "We need change."

Well, a Miles nomination probably would ensure change, as well as the election of a man who is most certainly not a "lifelong politician": Republican beer magnate Peter Coors.

That crunching sound you hear is the collision of idealism and pragmatism. And the screaming is the sound of red-faced idealists — people who support Miles or Republican Bob Schaffer, each of whom is considered more "pure" than their intraparty rivals, but has limited "centrist" appeal in Colorado.

Miles better represents our true beliefs, proclaim Democratic idealists. And when did we get so cynical about politics that we choose candidates based on little more than "electability"? Right-leaning activists say much the same thing about rigid social conservative Schaffer, who will square off against Coors at the GOP state assembly June 5, with both likely to make the August primary ballot.

Swell. But if one party is stubborn enough to nominate a "pure" candidate and the other goes with a more "mainstream" man, guess who's going to be commuting to Washington? And with the U.S. Senate teetering delicately on a 51-48 Republican majority, Colorado is a key battleground state, whether you are a Bush Republican or a Kucinich Democrat.

But let's be real: Colorado is pretty solid GOP country. As of May 14, there were 1,050,553 registered Republicans, 928,583 unaffiliated voters and in third place are the Democrats, with 865,853. That's 36.9 percent Republicans, 32.6 percent unaffiliated and 30.4 percent Democrats — and don't waste time dreaming that a meaningful majority of the unaffiliated are liberals.

For Democrats, all this means finding a candidate with broad centrist appeal who might even attract a few Republicans. For Republicans, it means settling on a candidate who can energize the base, but who doesn't veer so far to the right that he alienates — wait for it — the center. And, of course, statewide name recognition is a boon for any candidate.

If those factors count for anything — and the broader electorate usually has more sense than activist assembly delegates — we'll see a vigorous Coors-Salazar contest in the fall.

Purists can legitimately bemoan the influence of money in politics and the uphill battle faced by lesser-known candidates, of which Miles is a sterling — and qualified — example. But how ironic is it that some of the same Democrats who grumble about Salazar's appeal to the center — including, the horror, moderate Republicans — are the same people who rage and fume about President Bush's lockjawed refusal to reach across party lines or seek compromise?

Politics is, indeed, the art of compromise, and electability matters. If either major Colorado party turns to its "purest" candidates in August, the victory probably will ring excruciatingly hollow come November.

May 10, 2004 was the election day for our country, the Philippines. And in the past months of the campaign, we have been bombarded with different kinds of information coming from all avenues. Many issues were brought forth, debated, shared, and discussed. Many sectors of society, including the believers, got stirred up to participate, for they truly desire to to see change happen to our country.

Now that the election is over and we await the results, what's next for us to do? As I was pondering upon this matter, the Lord brought back to my mind "the power of a seed," and how often we failed to grasp the full implication of this and end up missing a lot of opportunities to affect change in our midst.

A Seed Produces

A seed, of whatever variety, is often small. But once it is planted, well taken cared of, and given time, has the ability to multiply and to grow beyond any measure we can imagine. This truth applies not just to a physical seed, but also to "spiritual" seeds that God has given specially to His people.

We long to experience positive and meaningful changes in our lives, our families, our churches, our society, our cities, and our nation. And oftentimes because of the magnitude of the problems we face daily, we begin to feel desperate and, at times, just surrender to these feelings, thinking that nothing will ever change, forgetting that we hold in our hands God's seeds which has the power to change the situations around us.

Today, let us remind ourselves once more that God has given us all the seeds we need to start sowing, seeds that will one day grow into mighty trees. Trees that will one day benefit not not just the sower but many others as well.

What are we facing today?

Is it financial distress? Then let us sow seeds of "giving." Let us give of our time, talent and, yes, finances.

Is it emotional coldness or apathy by those around us? Then let us sow seeds of "love". A kind word, a smile, a gentle touch...these little acts will help melt the coldness around us.

Is it fear and despair? Then let's begin sowing seeds of "praise & thanksgiving." Let's start to look for the positive in people instead of the negative. Let us begin to thank our children, our friends, our leaders for what they have already done instead of complaining about what they have failed to do.

Is it doubt and uncertainty? Then try sowing the seeds of "speaking forth God's promises." The Bible is full of them. Let us begin claiming them one by one.

Is it greed and dishonesty in society? Then try sowing seeds of "integrity and generosity". Let us practice speaking the truth always even when it hurts. In our work, let us become good stewards of all things entrusted to us, whether small or big. Let us not be afraid to go the second mile.

I am confident that whatever the need is in our midst today, God will abundantly provide us with the right seed to sow.

We Can Be Assured

What we will be led to do today may seem immaterial, if compared to the circumstances and challenges we are facing whether as a person, a family or a nation. But as we start sowing where the Lord leads us, we can be assured that one day, whether in our lifetime or our children's lifetime, these small sowing actions will reap many beneficial changes.

"To everything there is a season, and a time for every matter or purpose under heaven. A time to plant and a time to pluck up what is planted. He has made everything beautiful in its time." (Ecclesiastes 3:1,2b,11a)

"And let us not lose heart and grow weary and faint in acting nobly and doing right, for in due time and at the appointed season we shall reap, if we do not loosen and relax our courage and faint. So then, as occasion and opportunity open up to us, let us do good to all people [not only being useful or profitable to them, but also doing what is for their spiritual good and advantage]. Be mindful to be a blessing, especially to those of the household of faith [those who belong to God's family with you, the believers.]" (Galatians 6:9-10)

Bush to talk up his plans for Iraq

WASHINGTON — An embattled President Bush, his support imperiled at home and abroad, launches a five-week campaign Monday intended to reassure Americans that he has an effective plan for Iraq and persuade foreign leaders to do more to help it succeed.

At a time the White House would rather be bragging about good news on job growth and the economy, Bush will use speeches, international summits and news interviews to detail his plans for turning over Iraq's rule to an interim government on June 30 and describe the U.S. role in Iraq after that.

White House aides say Bush won't propose a change in course or offer a timeline for withdrawal of U.S. forces. He'll describe the steps to be taken next and defend the reasons for having gone to war in the first place.

Monday night's audience is guaranteed to be friendly: students and faculty at the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Pa.

But Bush will get a more skeptical reception when he attends summits with foreign leaders, including some harsh critics of the war. The G8 summit of major industrialized powers at Sea Island, Ga., a European Union summit in Ireland and a meeting of NATO leaders in Turkey that ends the day before power is to be transferred are likely to be dominated by the topic of Iraq. One point of confrontation is a proposal by France and Germany that a new U.N. resolution include a deadline for U.S. and other foreign forces to leave.

The war in Iraq — the deadliest U.S. military operation since the Vietnam War — is even likely to color ceremonies that otherwise would be celebrations: the dedication of the National World War II Memorial in Washington on Saturday and the 60th anniversary commemoration of D-Day on the beaches of Normandy in two weeks.

"President Bush has to pull his chestnuts out of the fire" at a time he looks weak and his competence is being questioned, says Fred Greenstein, a presidential scholar at Princeton University. He calls Bush's "pro-active" communications strategy bold for a president who has rarely used the bully pulpit in such a concerted way. "If he pulls it off, it will give him a chance to turn things around," Greenstein says.

The countdown to the transfer of power will prompt a sort of long-distance debate between Bush and Democratic challenger John Kerry. With a speech in Seattle on Thursday, Kerry begins more than a week of events focused on national security issues, including Iraq.

"John Kerry will talk about how to make America stronger at home and more respected abroad," spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter says. That will include a critique of Bush's leadership. "The president has not used the power of his office to strengthen our alliances or to broaden support for the war in Iraq," Cutter says.

Among the developments in recent days that challenge Bush:

•New embarrassments in Iraq. In the latest incident, Ahmad Chalabi, an Iraqi exile leader once so favored by the White House that he was seated behind Laura Bush at the State of the Union address this year, denied on Sunday allegations that he gave U.S. secrets to Iran. His headquarters in Baghdad was raided and searched last week.

Courts-martial and congressional investigations continue in connection with the Iraq prisoner-abuse scandal.

•Falling support among Americans. Bush's approval rating on handling Iraq fell to 41% in a USA TODAY/CNN/Gallup Poll taken May 7-9. That is the lowest of his presidency, down 20 points from the beginning of the year. For the first time, a majority, 54%, said the war in Iraq wasn't "worth it." The questions had a margin of error of +/{ndash}5 percentage points.

•Increasing criticism from Republicans. Senate Foreign Relations Chairman Richard Lugar, R-Ind., one of the most measured voices in Congress, in a commencement address at Tufts University in Massachusetts faulted the administration's "go it alone" approach to foreign policy. He called on Bush to "articulate precisely what is going to happen as much as they can, day by day, as opposed to a generalization." He and others have expressed concern about a lack of information about how the transfer of power will work.

Bush went to Capitol Hill on Thursday to rally Republican members on Iraq, but there was grumbling afterward when he didn't take questions. Meanwhile, Democrats have become increasingly caustic. House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi of California said Bush's actions in Iraq "demonstrate an incompetence in terms of knowledge, judgment and experience."

In his speech at 8 Monday night, Bush will begin to flesh out what's next, White House spokesman Jimmy Orr says.

"We're entering a critical phase," he says. "The president will discuss the steps and strategy ahead on a number of fronts: the security front, the sovereignty front, the diplomacy front, the humanitarian and civil infrastructure front — all in the context of keeping Iraq on a path toward democracy."

Aides say Bush hopes to dispel the impression that the administration doesn't have a plan to succeed in Iraq.

They say he also wants to make sure Americans understand a hard fact: The turnover of sovereignty in June won't mean the violence there will end — or that U.S. forces will be home soon.

President Bush's Fall... & A Prophetic Dream

As the readers of Fir and Myrtle Trees probably know...I have not posted any messages in several weeks due in part to being a caregiver to family members suffering from illnesses, etc. For several months now, my attention has been focused entirely on my own family's circumstances and needs.

This morning I received a wake up call from 'my own little world'. The call happened as I read in the newspaper: "President Injured In Fall".

Why did this newspaper article wake me up? Because earlier this week, I had a dream about President Bush, and in the dream he had a minor injury. Already part of what the Lord revealed through the dream in the spiritual realm (minor injury) has occurred in the physical realm.

The minor physical injuries President Bush received when he fell off a bike, and the injured pointer finger in my dream are two strong prophetic indicators.

President Bush needs our prayers, and God is calling us to pray for him.

It's not important whether you and I agree with all that President Bush says or does. What is important, is that we pray for him...there are no excuses.

The dream..........

This past Tuesday morning, May 18th, 2004 I awoke from a dream regarding President Bush. During the first few moments of waking up...I felt 'spent' and realized that during the dream I had been praying for President Bush with great force, almost violent like. As I pondered on the dream, there were some specific details I could remember.

It will be much easier for me to tell you the dream, as I told my mother and brother as we sat at the breakfast table that morning......

"Last night I had a dream about President Bush. This dream was more than just a regular dream. It was one of those dreams you know is from God. I can't remember all the details and that is frustrating to me. I do remember Jairus (my three year old grandson) and I were walking in a field and President Bush just appeared out of no where. I don't know what he was doing in the field. I don't know how he got there but for some reason I want to say there was a helicopter in the field....but I can't be sure.

There were a few men with President Bush. The men were standing around and about, however I did not see their faces. Basically I just remember their presence. President Bush walked up to me and Jairus, and then he leaned back on a split rail fence. I was so surprised at seeing President Bush, that for several moments I was literally speechless.

Jairus saw what I had not seen... President Bush's pointer finger was bleeding from a small injury. Taking hold of President Bush's finger with his little hands, Jairus said: I am going to pray and ask Jesus to help you. President Bush then stopped leaning on the split rail fence, and bent down toward Jairus......as Jairus began praying, and asking God to heal his finger.

When Jairus finished praying, I sensed the Holy Spirit strongly urging me to pray for President Bush. As I prayed, I could actually feel myself physically cringe as I spoke aloud what the Holy Spirit was revealing. There are those within President Bush's own cabinet, and staff that are plotting malicious schemes of confusion, wickedness, and evil.

After praying, I opened my eyes to see President Bush's reaction to the strong words that were spoken. His eyes were filled with tears. It was very evident that the 'prayer had hit the nail on the head'. As President Bush gave me a very firm handshake, I sensed that there was a flood of words he so much wanted to speak out, but could not at this time. President Bush's facial expression was of sincere, profound appreciation, and then as Jairus and I told him goodbye, I could hear his heart pleading for more prayer.

Partial Interpretation~~~

The injured pointer finger...... indicates an upcoming attack to remove President Bush from office, even if it involves physical injury.


Leaning on the fence.....

President Bush stopped leaning on the fence when Jairus began praying for him. Instead of leaning on the fence...he bent down to communicate with a three year old boy. In other words he took appropriate action. It is as Christians pray for President Bush that he is enabled to take appropriate action.

There are those within President Bush's own cabinet, and staff that are plotting malicious schemes of confusion, wickedness, and evil......

There are enemies within the President's inner circle, even among those thought to be trustworthy and loyal. Our prayers are needed to expose and bring to light those who are intent on harming our President.

His eyes were filled with tears. It was very evident that the 'prayer had hit the nail on the head'. As President Bush gave me a very firm handshake, I sensed that there was a flood of words he so much wanted to speak out, but could not at this time. President Bush's facial expression was of sincere, profound appreciation, and then as Jairus and I told him goodbye, I could hear his heart pleading for more prayer........

President Bush has a keen mind, and is acutely aware that there are people among 'his own' that are out to betray and ultimately unseat him from office. His firm handshake symbolizes his strong and unwavering committment. His heart pleading for more prayer indicates that he fully recognizes the power that is available through prayer. He definitely knows his own weakness. President Bush knows that he is powerless on his own, and that the only way he can successfully lead the United States of America is through Jesus Christ. He is desperate for our prayers.

Please encourage your children to pray for President Bush. In the dream, my grandson saw what I had not seen....President Bush's injured finger. There is enormous power in a child's prayer to Jesus Christ.

WITH our prayers....attacks against the President will lessen. Wickedness and evil will be exposed from within. President Bush will be spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically strengthened. And in the upcoming presidential election he will retain his position as President of the United States of America.


WITHOUT our prayers...just as President Bush fell from the seat of the bike, he will fall from the seat of the Office of the President of the United States of America.

Brewer cut bill 90% in 2 years

U.S. Senate candidate Pete Coors says he's a tax-cutter. Evidence is ample at the Adolph Coors Co., which has cut its federal income tax bill by almost 90 percent in two years.

The company, of which Pete Coors is chairman, has 2003 federal tax expense of just under $8 million on sales of $4 billion and pretax profits of $253.8 million. The tax expense is down from $50 million in 2002 and $74.1 million in 2001.

The company's Colorado income tax bill has dropped even more dramatically, to just $264,000 in 2003 from $9.9 million in 2002 and $13.8 million in 2001.

That's a 98 percent drop in two years.

The company says it has benefited from a number of new tax-break laws enacted since Sept. 11, 2001, that encourage companies to make capital investments. It also resolved five years' worth of audits and got $7.5 million cred-ited to it in 2003, a company spokesman said.

In addition, the $1.7 billion purchase of the Carling beer brand in Europe in early 2002 provided a number of tax advantages, including an "acquisition structure," which "is generally beneficial from a tax perspective," Adolph Coors Co. tells its shareholders in this year's annual report.

U.S. multinational corporations can use legal, yet controversial, "earnings stripping" tax-management techniques to minimize their total tax bills, including shifting profits and expenses from one country to another.

Adolph Coors Co. is not one of them, says spokeswoman Laura Sankey. "The company follows both the letter and the spirit of the tax laws that pertain to our business."

And to be sure, income taxes are a small part of Adolph Coors Co. overall tax bill; the company paid $1.4 billion in excise taxes on its beer in 2003.

Yet the irony is that while Adolph Coors Co. is delivering superior cash flow to its shareholders through a lower tax bill, it's also writing a smaller check to the Internal Revenue Service at the same time that its chairman, Pete Coors, is making a high-profile political debut in a run for U.S. Senate. Coors is attempting to replace retiring Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell, and faces Bob Schaffer in a GOP primary.

Cinnamon Watson, a Coors campaign spokeswoman, directed all questions back to the company, including queries on what Adolph Coors Co.'s tax management means about candidate Pete Coors' views on tax policy.

"It is very complicated," said Jennifer Duffy, Senate editor of the Cook Political Report in Washington, D.C. Coors' opponents, she said, "will try to make it an issue. It would be much more problematic if it involved jobs more than money."

Corporate taxes examined

Scandals that rocked America over the last three years put all corporate behavior under greater scrutiny. Critics noted the notorious Tyco International, where Chief Executive Officer L. Dennis Kozlowski and Chief Financial Officer Mark Swartz were later indicted for alleged corporate looting, re-incorporated itself in Bermuda to avoid paying U.S. corporate income tax.

Then, as the U.S. economy sank, federal budget surpluses swung to deficits and American jobs were lost - sometimes to overseas locations where workers earned a fraction of Americans' pay.

All these factors caused a new look at the amount that U.S. corporations pay in income taxes. A March 2003 article in BusinessWeek noted that in 2002, corporate tax receipts fell to just 1.5 percent of GDP from 2.5 percent in 2000, "far more than any change in the tax rules can explain." Adds the BusinessWeek author: "Tyco and Enron may have been the masters, but it's not just corporate rogues that have taken tax games to new extremes."

Now, these matters are under legislative scrutiny. The U.S. Senate passed a corporate-tax bill May 11 that cut some tax rates and encouraged companies to bring foreign profits home, while closing other loopholes. As they were working on the bill, the General Accounting Office released a study that said more than 60 percent of U.S. corporations reported no income tax liability in 2000.

Current vs. deferred taxes

Investors in Adolph Coors Co. may not even realize the extent of Coors current tax savings, due to the difficulty of evaluating U.S. companies' financial statements.

A quick look at Adolph Coors Co. earnings shows $79.2 million in total income tax expense in 2003. That number is down from 2002, but is actually above 2001 levels.

But this figure has two pieces:

• There's "current tax expense" - the figure that most closely resembles the bottom line on a tax return - of $25.3 million paid to federal, state and foreign governments. Adolph Coors Co. paid the bulk of its current taxes, $17 million, internationally to foreign governments.

• There's also $53.5 million in "deferred tax expense." Deferred tax expense shows up as taxes on a company's income statement, but it isn't yet owed to the IRS or other governments.

When the two are combined, Adolph Coors Co.'s effective tax rate in 2003 is 31.2 percent - below the U.S. statutory level of 35 percent, but still higher than some other U.S. corporations.

"These are not taxes avoided," says Adolph Coors Co. spokesman Dave Dunnewald. "They're only deferred, and they will be paid - otherwise they wouldn't be on the books at all." He also notes that current tax expense is lower in 2003 because of $7.5 million Adolph Coors Co. received by resolving five years' worth of audits.

David L. Brumbaugh, a specialist in public finance for the Congressional Research Service, explained the advantages of deferred taxes in a October 2003 report on tax policy for American companies' foreign earnings.

"In general, deferral poses a tax incentive for U.S. firms to invest in foreign countries with low tax rates," Brumbaugh said. "This is because a tax whose payment can be postponed matters less to a firm than a tax that is paid currently. As long as payment is postponed, a firm can invest and earn a return on what would otherwise be spent on taxes."

The split between Adolph Coors Co.'s current tax expense and deferred taxes highlights the stark differences between financial accounting - the numbers given to shareholders - and tax accounting, the process used to fill out a tax return.

One difference is depreciation. The IRS allows companies to depreciate assets much faster on tax returns than on financial statements. The bigger the depreciation, the smaller the profits - and the fewer taxes owed.

Dunnewald said the company benefited from the "bonus depreciation" created in federal tax law in 2002, then expanded in 2003.

Companies that bought new property after Sept. 10, 2001 - in other words, during the economic slowdown prompted by the terrorist attacks - would get to take a extra depreciation deduction equal to 30 percent of the cost of the property. In last year's tax bill, the bonus depreciation increased to 50 percent for property that was acquired after May 5, 2003, as further incentive for businesses to invest.

Cross-border implications

Colorado is one of only 13 states that allowed the federal "bonus depreciation" on state tax returns, according to CCH Inc., a Chicago-based research company that specializes in tax and business law.

Dunnewald notes that Adolph Coors Co. spent $54 million on a computer system for supply-chain management during this period, and the company paid lower taxes because it received the "bonus depreciation" for the investment.

Less clear is the tax benefit from the 2002 purchase of the Carling brand, although the company describes an "acquisition structure" in its annual report that "is generally beneficial from a tax perspective."

Dunnewald says this refers to the lower statutory tax rate in the U.K.: 30 percent, compared with 35 percent in the U.S.

Subsidiaries of Adolph Coors Co. issued $850 million in debt to partially pay for the U.K. acquisition in early 2002.

The company also entered into a kind of financial derivative known as "cross currency swaps" in which it exchanged debt principal, interest payments, and the currencies of the U.S. and the U.K. Adolph Coors Co. also entered into an intercompany loan between one of its U.S. companies and its U.K. company.

Dunnewald describes the currency-swap arrangement, coupled with the intercompany loan, as a hedge to reduce the volatility of its U.K. profits.

The structure Adolph Coors Co. chose allows the company to hedge the profits without reflecting the swings in its income statement, he added.

These types of structures are also used in tax strategy, notes Selva Ozelli, a certified public accountant and attorney who studies international taxation at RIA, a New York-based provider of software and information to tax professionals.

Ozelli does not study Adolph Coors Co. nor the brewing industry, so she spoke generally. "Intercompany cross border derivative transactions are highly utilized in tax shelter transactions because of the financial disclosure rules relating to derivatives; the difficulties in valuing derivatives; and the uncertain tax treatment of derivatives."

Yet Sankey and Dunnewald say there "are no significant tax benefits to the hedge."

Mark Luscombe, a certified public accountant and attorney who's the principal federal tax analyst for research company CCH, examined the Adolph Coors Co. annual report to the Securities and Exchange Commission and said the currency swap "looks like a more straightforward way of financing the acquisition, using these hedges, that the IRS isn't focusing on."

Adolph Coors Co. is able to take U.S. tax deductions on the $637 million of goodwill it acquired by buying the U.K. business. Goodwill is an intangible asset that represents the extra price paid over the book value of assets acquired. Companies no longer amortize goodwill or reflect it in the income statements, but it's still deductible for tax purposes.

And Adolph Coors Co. has borrowed money in the U.S. - taking on tax-deductible interest payments - to buy a business that makes profits in the U.K.

Adolph Coors Co. owes U.S. taxes on the U.K. profits only if it "repatriates" those earnings back to the U.S. in the form of a dividend to the U.S. company. Until then, it creates another kind of deferred tax on the income statement.

Plus, notes John Bazley, a professor of accounting at the University of Denver, "The more they want to grow the business internationally, the more they need to leave the profits they generate in the country in the U.K. and not take them to the United States."

While I believe that tax cuts are good for the economy, I am not as committed to them as the other candidates. We should work for lower taxes for all, but be careful not to harm vital programs, such as Education, Social Security and Medicare.

Also, I do not view tax cuts as the cure all. When asked about the economy many of our candidates across the country respond: "The answer is lower taxes." When asked about Job Creation: "Tax cuts are the answer." Reminds me of the elixir salesman in the territory days riding from town to town in a covered wagon and selling an elixir that could cure every ailment.

I believe tax cuts are good for the economy, but certainly not a magic elixir. If we want new and better jobs for Colorado and for all Americans, then we must take the initiative, we must be visionary and creative. This is why I am proposing a bipartisan plan for creating new and better jobs for America.

#1. Investment in Highway and Transportation Infrastructure:

U. S. Rep. Don Young (R-Alaska) is Chairman of the Transportation Committee and this is what he has to say:

"Traffic congestion costs the United States more than $67 billion annually - more than 3.6 billion hours in delays and 5.7 billion gallons of excess fuel wasted in traffic jams. Senate Bill 1072 alone, would create more than 1.3 million new jobs throughout all 50 states over the next six-year authorization."

U. S. Rep. James Oberstar (D-MN), also of the Transportation Committee says:

"Investment in highway and transit infrastructure will help create millions of badly needed, family - wage jobs and generate billions of dollars in economic activity. For each $1 billion of Federal funds invested in infrastructure we see approximately 47,500 jobs and $6.1 billion in economic activity."

#2. Invest in a New Jobs Tax Credit to Jumpstart the Economy and Bring Back American Jobs From Overseas

Now this is along the lines of a John Kerry proposal, but listen, when a Democrat can come up with a good idea, give him credit for it. After all, a good idea is a good idea.

It is time to stop the corporate abuse of loopholes in our tax system and make it advantageous for corporations to keep jobs in America and bring back American jobs from overseas. In other words, put an end to overseas tax havens for American corporations.

Small businesses that create new jobs should get a tax break and some assistance in establishing employee benefits, such as retirement and health insurance.

#3. Invest in a New Job Creation Tax Credit

This idea is based on a Tom Daschle proposal to provide a tax credit for each additional full-time employee that a business hires. This would be based on a simple formula that allows a business $5,000 tax credit each year for each additional employee added to the payroll.

I would also allow both small and medium sized businesses up to $150,000 in investments as an additional incentive for businesses to hire new workers.

#4. Invest in Better Health Care Coverage for Small Businesses and Farmers

When workers cannot pay for their health care, the economy suffers and health care costs rise. I propose to help small businesses band together to buy cheaper and better insurance under Association Health Plans.

#5. Invest in Bio-fuels and Other New Technologies

A great example of a new technology that we should be investing in is Bio-fuel. We should create tax incentives for the use of clean burning bio-diesel as a fuel. This is something that would boost farming and help the environment.

#6. Extend Unemployment Benefits to Workers

Again, when workers are unemployed and cannot pay their bills, not only do they lose their homes and their financial future, the economy also takes a hit. By extending this safety net for all Americans we can also protect our economy.

#7. Save the Family Farm by Fighting to Make the Estate Tax Repeal Permanent

Family farms and businesses were threatened for years when surviving family members were forced to sell inherited property. That is wrong! The estate tax punishes family farms and businesses that took generations to build. The estate tax repeal will end in 2011. I will fight in the Senate to make the estate tax repeal permanent and ensure economic fairness for all American families.

Critics say terrorism agreement would suspend constitutional rights with no statute of limitations

Critics say a new anti-terrorism treaty between the U.S. and the United Kingdom could conceivably result in Great Britain seizing the assets of dead enemies – like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams.

The treaty, forwarded April 19, 2004, by President Bush to the U.S. Senate for ratification, has generated little media attention and little controversy – probably due to the fact that it is an agreement between coalition partners in the war on terrorism.

But some who have examined the small print see big problems with the new extradition treaty – saying it abrogates the constitutional rights of Americans accused of wrongdoing by Great Britain and threatens the estates of long-dead antagonists of the crown.

Drafted by Attorney General John Ashcroft, the treaty is designed for "combatting terrorism, organized crime, money laundering, and other offenses." But William Hughes, author of "Saying 'No' to the War Party," charges that under the treaty as written, the British could demand recompense from anyone in the U.S. who stood up to British law – living or dead.

Hughes contends the property of the descendants of the founding fathers could theoretically be seized.

"Such items and assets may be surrendered even if the extradition cannot be carried out due to the death ... of the person sought," states Article 16 of the treaty.

Another critic, Professor Francis A. Boyle, a professor of international law at the University of Illinois, claims the treaty will "eliminate the political offense exception to any offense allegedly involving violence or weapons; transfer responsibility for determining whether the extradition request is politically motivated from the courts to the executive branch; allow for extradition even if no U.S. federal law is violated; and allow for provisional arrest and detention for 60 days upon request by the UK."

Hughes states: "If all of this sounds like the Brits could wake up one morning and just arbitrarily charge an American citizen with a so-called 'extraditable offense,' on the flimsiest kind of evidence, you're right to think so. It also means that the accused, a citizen of this republic, would get no full judicial review of his extradition process by a federal judge, a federal appellant court, or the U.S. Supreme Court."

He says once the treaty is approved by the Senate and signed by the president, "an American, will be at the mercy of an alien-based foreign government" with none of the usual constitutional protections.

The treaty is currently sitting before the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, chaired by Sen. Richard G. Lugar, R-Ind. Irish-American activists have expressed their concerns that the treaty might be designed to target activists working for Irish independence.

In a letter from a coalition of Irish-American organizations earlier this month, the critics wrote: "Under the new treaty, as drafted, an extradition request from the British government could be received on one day and a target, regardless of citizenship or the merits of the extradition request, could be forcibly placed on a plane and deposited with the British security forces the very next day. These are the same security forces that presently stand accused of orchestrating collusive murders of its citizens in Northern Ireland for many years and who have successfully stonewalled calls for independent investigations of such misdeeds."

The current treaty governing extradition between the U.S. and Britain was signed in London on June 8, 1972. It was amended by the supplementary treaty signed in Washington on June 25, 1985.

''There's no big Irish issue in the (presidential) campaign, but if this treaty goes through there will be," says Boyle.

According to Boyle, the proposed treaty not only does away with the concept of a political-exception clause, it also removes the possibility of judicial review in extradition cases while exposing individuals, including U.S. citizens, to the threat of extradition to the United Kingdom based on "totally unfounded allegations."

People, he told the Irish News, could be prosecuted for simply helping people involved in the situation in Northern Ireland.

Boyle has written Lugar instructing him that had the treaty been in force back in the 1770s, America's founding fathers, including Washington and Jefferson, would have been "extradited to the British Crown for prosecution of their very revolutionary activities that founded the United States of America itself."

But given that there is no statute of limitations and that asset forfeiture is a part of the treaty – even for dead targets – some have only half-jokingly suggested the estates of the founders could be endangered.

The Departments of Justice and State argue in their correspondence with Lugar that provisions of the treaty are similar to those with Spain, South Africa, Poland, France and Lithuania.

(AgapePress) - A Christian author and speaker is sounding a rather istic tone when it comes to homosexual "marriage" in America. Os Guinness says the nation apparently doesn't have the moral strength to reverse the legalization of same-sex unions, precipitated by this week's events in Massachusetts.

Dr. Guinness has authored such books as Dining With the Devil: The Megachurch Movement Flirts with Modernity and Fit Bodies, Fat Minds: Why Evangelicals Don't Think and What To Do About It. Guinness, who sits on the board of trustees for Trinity Forum, recently told Associated Press that it does not look like homosexual marriage in the U.S. is something that can be reversed.

"There are moments in peoples' decline when [they] finally draw the line, but the signs are with same-sex marriage in the nation that won't happen," he says. "And what we're seeing politically and in the polls is that the American center is very soft and is not going to make a stand."

Americans, he says, seem resigned to just living with the concept of same-sex marriages. "Any pretense of a moral majority has long since gone," he says, adding that he is disappointed at the lack of moral leadership coming from Capitol Hill.

"[W]hat's alarming on this issue is you see the inability of political leaders -- supremely, the president -- to raise people across the board to stand against this," he says. "In other words, what's called the 'soft center' of America really is caving in -- that includes Christians, it includes conservatives, and there's no end to where this may go."

According to Guinness, the American culture is waiting for a leader "who understands the issues, who can rise above the culture wars to state them, and can do so persuasively to those he opposes as well as those who he supports."

"I had hoped that George W. Bush might be the person, but clearly he's become so preoccupied and now bogged down with his war on ism and in Iraq that he's incapable of this -- and he may not even have a second term," the author says.

Guinness describes the legalization of homosexual marriage as a milestone on the road to cultural collapse, and he predicts that "within a generation or two, the harvest of chaos in this country will be enormous." In addition, he sees Bible-believing Christians becoming an increasingly besieged counterculture.

"It will take people who really take their faith seriously to say, 'Look, the culture may be eroding, collapsing all around me -- but not through me. I can responsible for my world.'"

He contends that the nation's main challenge is not ism or rogue states who might possess weapons of mass destruction. "Our main dangers are actually within this country," he says.

The Heat of Summer
Now that Massachusetts officials have begun issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples, the supporters of traditional marriage are bracing for an e summer.

Homosexual couples from other states have flocked to the Bay State to get married, but many say they will return to their own states with an agenda. U.S. Congresswoman Marilyn Musgrave, sponsor of the Federal Marriage Amendment legislation current working its way through the House of Representatives, says this summer of upheaval is courtesy of the pro-homosexual judiciary in Massachusetts.

"Armed with such an unprecedented ruling by the four Supreme Court justices in Massachusetts, and the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in the Lawrence v. Texas case, homosexual couples will fiercely attack well-founded state laws," the Colorado Republican says.

Thirty-eight states have Defense of Marriage Acts (DOMAs) which define marriage as the union of a man and a woman. Musgrave says those DOMAs will be attacked in the courts this summer by homosexual activists.

And The Winner Is ...

The primary purpose of most voters when they go to vote is to either get their candidate elected, or keep another candidate from getting elected. So, they vote either “for,” or “against” candidates. Since only one in four Christians vote, perhaps their primary purpose is to “grin and bear” whatever the results happen to be.

Do three out of four Christian voters sit out elections because they are apathetic and are not concerned about the downward spiral of our culture? I don’t think so. In fact, I believe the opposite is true: they are smart enough to realize that there is no substantive difference between most candidates. Therefore they conclude it doesn’t make any difference who wins.

Such a conclusion, however, is unbiblical to its core. Why would Christians set out to discredit and dishonor their God? The answer could well be that they don’t do it intentionally, but rather rationally and for pragmatic reasons. Our culture is disintegrating and Christians are not voting because they are not taking the time to step back from the hustle and bustle of daily activities to filter their decision-making through the Biblical principles they profess to believe. Add to this Pastors who are more afraid of the IRS than God, and never preach or teach their congregations how to carry out their civil duties in a Biblical manner, and the result is a religion that only our non-Christian opponents can be proud of. Today’s typical church focuses on Bible study (for nothing more than accumulating spiritual war fuzzies to get someone through difficult times), prayer (with seldom a focus on “living out” their prayer requests), foreign missions (its easier telling someone else how to live, than doing so ourselves) and the end times (while we spend time speculating on what may happen, non-Christians are taking over what is happening in our culture).

What Scripture commands Christians, and their Pastors and teachers, to focus on is how we can demonstrate God’s will through our daily actions and decisions. We are not called to bring about specific results. That’s what God does. He’s in the results business; we’re in the obedience business. While it is true that He graciously and mercifully works through us to “Christianize” the earth, a brief look through Scripture will show that He often does so in some very un-rational and un-pragmatic ways (i.e., the parting of the Jordan River, raining down food from the skies, etc.).

We must remember that we are in our present fallen condition because Eve decided to act autonomously from God’s advice. In approaching the upcoming election with the mindset of “determining the winners” we are merely imitating Eve’s attitude of not depending upon God’s wisdom and counsel.

Our role as Christian voters is simple: vote for the best Biblically qualified candidate, then watch God go to work. If there are no Biblically qualified candidates our task is to approach our Pastor and church officers and encourage them to begin a training program to raise up such candidates in the next election. It must be realized that the Democrats and Republicans don’t offer us “dumb” and “dumber” for no reason. They want to discourage intelligent voters to sit out the elections. They could care less if 25 percent of the population votes. They are only concerned about the power and influence that comes from winning. It is our duty to raise up Christian candidates who can then use their power to influence a return to the Biblical principles upon which our country was founded upon.

Of RINOs, DINOs and CINOs

Many voters do not vote along straight party lines. Instead they vote along ideological lines, which usually includes candidates from both major parties. Such voters usually think that either liberals or conservatives hold the answer to our culture’s problems.

However, from a Christian point of view, society’s problems have been brought about because of both liberal and conservatives. The reason for this is that only God’s Word is true, which means that any candidate who does not conform his decisions to Biblical principles is making a faulty (untrue) decision. When viewed from this perspective there emerges three types of candidates:

RINOs – Republicans In Name Only (otherwise known as liberal Republicans)
DINOs – Democrats In Name Only (otherwise known as conservative Democrats)
CINOs – Christians In Name Only (from either party)

The difference between CINOs and RINOs & DINOs is one of intention. RINOs & DINOs know full well what they’re doing. They have determined that they are in a district where if they are going to get elected they have to belong to a particular party. Even though that party doesn’t reflect their agenda, they run under its name, get elected, then vote with the other party’s agenda. Everything is carried out by design and intention.

CINOs, on the other hand, don’t set out to intentionally disobey God. They make it a priority to obey Him inside their homes and churches, and in some cases even teach Sunday School. Unfortunately, they fail to give a second thought about applying His principles to their everyday legislative decisions. Because of their overall moral character they honor God when it comes to issues relating to the Second Table of the Law (don’t kill, steal, cheat, covet, etc.). The inconsistency in the legislative decisions comes when First Table issues are involved (worship no other god, don’t dishonor Him by belittling His name, keep the Lord’s Day holy).

While these Legislators are Christians, they legislate as though they are Christians In Name Only, with the consequence that their votes often conform to unbiblical principles (possibly without them realizing it). If their congregation and their church officers were obedient to Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 18, they would be counseled about such inconsistent behavior so they could correct it, but sadly most Pastors are more concerned about church growth than about consistently serving God by applying His principles to all areas of one’s life, yes, even those areas outside the church and home. If America’s original Pastors had the attitude of today’s Pastors, America would still be an English colony. King George would not have had to refer to “that Presbyterian Revolt,” because such self-centered wimpy Pastors would have sheepishly taught that there was a “separation of God and the State.”

There is no reason for America Christians to continue to live as though we serve a defeated God, or to act as though we should behave as second-class citizens. Our Lord, Savior and King has been “given the nations for His inheritance, and the ends of the earth for His possession.” (Psalm 2) He has further appointed us to bring about His will “on earth as it is in heaven.” (Matthew 6.10) May we be about the business of serving our sovereign God by campaigning and then voting for Christians, then not being hesitant to counsel them to legislate like “Cs” (Christians), not CINOs.

Taxes, Taxes and More Taxes

Why is it that no matter what the election or who is running, the recurring theme is “With a little more taxes we can solve your problems?” The answer is that we continue to elect politicians instead of statesmen. The Civil Government has no revenue except what we give to it through our taxes. Tax revenues give politicians the opportunity to “buy” votes by funneling a portion of that money back into their districts.

Politicians don’t have principles, they only have offices they are elected to and will do practically anything to stay in that office. This explains why they are self-centered in their policy decisions. Statesmen, on the other hand, are others-centered in their policy decisions and act on principles. They’re honest by doing what they say they will do. They prefer to under-promise and over-perform, which is exactly opposite of the behavior of politicians.

It will be only when we begin to elect statesmen that we will stop hearing the constant demand for more taxes.

Statesmen recognize the distinction between a form of civil government that is a representative republic from that of a pure democracy.

The pledge of Allegiance includes the phrase “and to the republic for which it [the flag] stands,” however for most of the last one hundred years America has been deliberately walking away from our republic roots and toward a pure democracy. The consequences of this have been ominous as we have gone from working 20 days to pay off our taxes in 1900 to 120 days today. In addition to losing a lot of money to civil government who has done an excellent job of wasting much of it, we have lost the accompanying personal liberties that go with increased taxation.

Of course this is just what the State wants; a dependent citizenry who pays more and more for more and more services. (Services we could and should be providing ourselves). Personal liberty and income are not the only the only things at risk. History shows that our very country is on slippery ice. An 18th century Scottish history professor, Alexander Tyler is reported to have said this about “The Fall of the Athenian Republic,” which happened more than 2,000 years ago:

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse (generous gifts) from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, (which is) always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been two hundred years. These nations have progressed through this sequence. From bondage to spiritual faith; from spiritual faith to great courage; from courage to liberty; from liberty to abundance, from abundance to complacency; from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependence, from dependence back into bondage.

The choice during this year’s elections is up to us.

Do we want to continue to support and vote for candidates that cater to our self-centered desires to “get something for nothing,” mainly by robbing another districts tax revenues for our community, or will we recapture the vision of our country’s founders who gave us the best and most affluent country in the history of the world by electing statesmen? A pure democracy where we are at the ever-changing whims of tyranny of the 51 percent, or a representative republic where statesmen legislate on the basis of what’s best for their constituents, instead of lining their pockets.

Praise God we live in a country where we can freely campaign and vote for statesmen. May we do so before we lose that privilege by becoming dependent upon self-centered politicians.

Second Peter 2:1-3 prophesies of the "false teachers" who would arise within the church to deceive the unwary. Furthermore, the apostle Paul stresses the necessity of being on guard against the wolves in sheep's clothing who would "draw away disciples after them" (Acts 20:26-31). The "latter times" for the church, the Bible tells us, will be marked by "seducing spirits," "doctrines of devils," and "signs and lying wonders" (1 Tim. 4:1; 2 Thess. 2:6-10).

Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore is being scammed, just like the rest of us. In a moment I will prove that with just one word. Yes, just one word.

As we learn in high school, judges are the interpreters of our laws. They don't write laws, they interpret them. Judges read the words the legislative branch has written and passed; examine the obvious meaning of those words and the context in which they are found; and when there is an ambiguity, they research and consider the legislative history surrounding the text of the law to discover what the legislators meant when they passed it.

Legislative history is the record of the committee hearings in which the law originally was discussed, before it was sent by the committee to the floor of the larger legislative body for consideration. Legislative history also includes the speeches given on the floor of the House of Representatives and the Senate before the final vote on the law occurs. Committee testimony and floor speeches are often used to clarify exactly what the framers of the law intended, when they drafted it and adopted it into law.

In the case of the Constitution, part of the legislative record are the Federalist Papers, which were newspaper columns written by supporters of the Constitution, explaining to the people of the thirteen states why they should ratify the Constitution and give limited powers to a newly formed federal government.

By now, most conservatives are aware that the words "separation of church and state" appear no where in the U.S. Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, or the Federalist Papers. They are not the law; neither are they part of the legislative history of the law. The doctrine or separation of church and state is a fabrication of blatantly liberal, anti-Christian, dishonest, activist judges. In fact, the words,"separation of church and state" are only words taken out of context from a letter written by Thomas Jefferson. They exist nowhere in the laws of our nation.

Earlier, I said I would prove that the doctrine of separation of church and state is a scam, and that I would do so with one word; just one word. That is easily done. On a recent radio show, I handed a co-host a copy of the U.S. Constitution and asked him to read the First Amendment out loud over the air. He began to read, but I stopped him after the first word. "That's enough. You have read enough. You don't have to read further. You have settled the debate already," I said.

What was that one word that ended the debate over separation of church and state. That word is "Congress."

Read it for yourself. The First Amendment says that congress shall make no law establishing a religion. It doesn't say that states cannot establish a religion or observe religious holidays. It doesn't say that cities, counties, or school districts cannot show respect for the Bible or Christianity. The First Amendment doesn't imply in even the vaguest way that it is unconstitutional for a city to erect a manger scene in the town square at Christmas or for a school teacher to offer up a prayer to Almighty God at a graduation ceremony or before daily classes begin. You cannot get that out of the First Amendment, even if you stretch.

It's right there, plain as day. The First Amendment only limits Congress; no one else. Under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, Congress cannot establish a religion or prohibit the free exercise of religion. But, you say, the Founders must have wanted to prevent governments at all levels from showing preference for any one religion over others. Not so. The states would not have given Congress any authority over their actions regarding such matters.

At the time the Constitution was ratified by the thirteen original states, not only did Congress hold long, fervent prayer meetings and quote directly from scripture in speeches and floor debates, but a number of the original 13 states had in existence official state churches with official names like The Church of Maryland. Official state churches. And they were overtly Christian.

Those state churches were not limited by the First Amendment, nor did they cease to exist after the Constitution was ratified. Why? Because the First Amendment did not affect them. The First Amendment was designed solely to prohibit Congress from establishing a national church like the Church of England; a political church that many of the colonists had come to the New World to escape. The Founders merely wanted to prevent the federal government from forcing one sect of Christianity upon the entire country.

If you think the Founders supported the doctrine of separation of church and state, consider these quotes:

The U.S. Supreme Court in The Church of the Holy Trinity v. U.S. said, "Religion, morality, and knowledge are necessary to good government, and preservation of liberty, and the happiness of mankind." Clearly, the U.S. Supreme Court once thought that the U.S. could not have good government without religion.

The U.S. Supreme Court also said in the same case, "Our laws and our institution must necessarily be based upon and embody the teachings of the Redeemer of Mankind. It is impossible that it should be otherwise. In this sense and to this extend, our civilization and our institutions are emphatically Christian." Has one word of the Constitution been changed since the court issued this decision in 1892, a hundred years after the Constitution was ratified, declaring that America is emphatically Christian?

Consider these words from the Northwest Ordinance, approved by Congress in 1789, "Religion, morality and knowledge being necessary to good government and the happiness of mankind, school and the means of education shall forever be encouraged." There it is again, we must have religion if we are going to have good government, and they tie religion to schools. In fact, the very first English Bibles printed in America were paid for by the U.S. Congress with public money, and inside the cover of those Bibles it says that they were for use in our schools.

John Adams, our second president said, "We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion...Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."

Robert Winthrop, Speaker of the House in the early days of the Republic, said, "Men, in a word, must necessarily be controlled either by a power within them or by a power without them, either by the Word of God or by the strong arm of man, either by the Bible or by the bayonet." Judge Roy Moore is right. The Bible is the basis for our laws. We end up with more government and less freedom when we refuse to be governed by morality and religion.

James Madison said, "We have staked the whole future of American Civilization, not upon the power of government, far from it. We have staked the future of all of our political institution...upon the capacity of of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God."

George Washington, our first president and the father of our country, said, "Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible."

Consider these additional quotes that demonstrate that the Founders were overtly Christian, not just religious men. Patrick Henry said, "It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians, not on religion, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ! For this very reason peoples of other faiths have been offered asylum, prosperity, and freedom of worship here." Multi-culturalism to the Founders did not mean that we ceased to be a Christian nation, but that we were tolerant of others and allowed them to worship freely. We did not force them to become Christians and they did not force our nation to cease to be Christian.

The final version of the First Amendment says, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." Part of the legislative history of the First Amendment includes a longer version that included the words, "...nor shall any national religion be established...". That's what the First Amendment was about, prohibiting Congress from establishing a national church.

Liberal judges, ACLU lawyers, and liberal law professors have stolen the heritage of this nation. They have taken a clearly worded provision of the Constitution and twisted it to rob of us of the very underpinnings of our government and our society. They didn't do it through legislative acts, adopted by the duly elected representatives of the people. In fact, no words have changed in the First Amendment. The original words have been given radically different nonsensical meanings. Liberal judges have taken prayer out of our schools and manger scenes out of our town squares by blatant dishonesty. They have taken a constitutional provision that clearly limits Congress and only Congress and applied it to states, cities, counties and school districts.

Folks, it is impossible for us to save this country from those who would destroy it and pervert it into something radically different from what the Founder envisioned, if we do not rein in the power of overreaching, activist judges, who no longer interpret the clear meaning of the law, but pervert it and twist it. Judges today twist the law to make it say what they want it to say; to accomplish the end they desire. To that end they are no longer judges, but thieves, unworthy of the robes they wear.

Trust & Deceit...Satan's Forte' Carl G Loy Aug 31, 2003

Ps 118:8 declares, "It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man."

Ps 146:3 shows us, "Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help."

Matthew 7: 22, 23 (KJV) Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Matthew 7: 15 (KJV) Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

Judas Iscariot was trusted by all of the other apostles. He appeared to be one of them, completely devoted to Jesus and intent on following Him. Can you imagine the shock to the others when the deceit of Judas was discovered?

Such is the deceit of man upon man. Only Our Lord knew the real Judas, and of his intended betrayal. Peter simply could not believe that any one of their group would do such a thing, even when the Lord forewarned him that such would take place.

Christians must remain focused on Jesus Christ and the Cross at Calvary, whereby we will never be deceived. Satan is deceit. Satan works thru man to deceive one of another. It is his great and awesome talent. It is mindboggling when you really understand just how much of the world you know, is so completely unlike what you have been led to think that it is. Why? Because Satan has deceived you. How? By using the very things upon which you have placed trust in man. Where else can he find a way to deceive you except thru the use of others. Sometimes we are shocked at what we learn about someone in whom we have placed a lot of trust. We feel disappointed and alarmed at our having been betrayed. But that is the norm and we are unable to see it. Perhaps those weak in their trust in Jesus Christ would be unable to deal with the great amount of deceit that is woven around them like a spider does a web for it is astounding.

Deceit, Satan's greatest weapon, from Eve to Anti-Christ, floods the earthly world. Here in our own time on earth, Satan is hard at work. He knows his time to wreak his havoc is not unending, but even that his final battle draws near. Old Satan has deceived himself, even. Remember, he wants to be god. Satan has great powers and many are the demons at his disposal. War exists in the Heavens and is manifested on earth. Satan wants to capture your soul and use you to claim as many more as possible in as short a time as possible. He works in the most devious ways. He has his many followers and they move freely among us within our daily routine. He wants to bring Christians down and he tempts you with all that is contradictory to the demands of our true God that we forego worldly things and seek eternal rewards. Just like he tempted Eve, he tempts you every day. But, oh what an arsenal he now has to use on us. And it is all about deceit.

You are deceived by all to which you are exposed. That's right, I said all. No need to go into all the details. That would take forever. All that you see in man is deceit. There, that makes it easy to understand. We are deceived and we deceive others and they deceive others, and ... You get the picture. And so great is the deceit that most of us know not that we are so deceived and would be on our knees seeking repentance knowing we had thus unintentionally deceived others. Deceived not about our salvation, necessarily, but about the things we sincerely believe, because we learned it from man and trusted man, and that information was not exactly His Word.

Satan walks in the door of every church everytime the doors are opened. Are you one of those giving him this free ride and allowing him to occupy a seat? Many do. Turmoil within churches are Satan's doing, but that is the least problem because it exposes itself and the deceit is not so great. It is manifested in individuals and their behavior is identified and can be curtailed. If we still practiced church discipline as Paul states we should, we would eliminate much of the world and Satan within our churches. But the deceit in churches is great, also. Your pastor can honestly teach a gospel not of Scripturally sound doctrine. He may be a product of the liberal university and liberal scholars who do not accept the Bible as the inspired Word of God. Even though he may have been studious and remains the student that he should, he may well have a view that is the result of having been deceived by man. And he may continue that deceit in his own testimony. Likewise, he may lack the courage to preach the things of the Bible that steps on too many toes, and this is a form of intentional deceit, as a sin of omission. Your church literature is probably deceiving you in a most subtle way, and not one teacher can identify it's thread, so great is that deceit, and so little their discernment, a tragic combination. The direction of the church, its leadership, activities, and works, can all be used by Satan and he most certainly is at work there spreading his deceit, taking advantage of the gullible and encouraging their apostasy. He may actually be in control of some churches, and all the while the members go thru the motions and do some good things and may well appear to be such a wonderful place to be. Remember, if it looks too good, it may be because Satan has gained all he needs there.

You may have other forms of deceit in your church. Take freemasonry, for instance; nowhere is found greater deceit than is that of the professing Christian who claims such membership, yet believes that he can be both a member of a secret society and Follow in His Footsteps. This is trying to mix oil and water. On the surface and to the deceived, it can appear to be very 'Christian' doing good works, but good works and professing 'religion' were the very ones who crucified Jesus Christ. And they were meeting in secret to conspire against Jesus. The Bible teaches us that we are not to partiicipate in works of darkness. Secrecy is darkness and it should be brought to light. When light exposes freemasonry and all its' blood oaths and pagan rites and rituals and its' recognition of god as in, 'any god will do,' that should tell a true Christian he needs to repent and get out. Yet, we have deacons and pastors who violate God's Word and aspire for the things that is offered them by belonging to such an organization. Some of our most evil government people over the years, such as Communist/Socialist president FDR, and many currently in our Congress were, or are, 32nd and 33rd Degree Masons and cannot a Christian be. By that time they have to know the deceit involved and have become a party to advancing it. It is the driving influence behind the New World Order. To have these influences in a church is to have Satan in the midst working his deceit in a place dedicated to the worship of the one true God. Yet, good works hides their true agenda and many are the deceived. How could a Christian participate in a 'group' that performs unChristian rituals and swears blood oaths and then act in leadership roles in His Church? And there is certainly more evil involved than just the oaths and rituals. I would avoid churches where Masons are active and they should not be elected to public office since they are pledged to a higher bond than is the constitution and their oath of office.

James 5:12 "But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation."

Much of the deceit in churches comes from goals that are unBiblical. The tendency to compete for members and playing the numbers growth game spawns a bureacratic social and entertainment club, where priorities lose all sight of Scripture. It is no longer about the individual Christian life as a shining light to the world, but about the tallest steeple and largest gym and how many enrolled.

"Who hath directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being his counsellor hath taught him? With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of judgment, and taught him knowledge, and shewed to him the way of understanding?" Isaiah 40:13-14 KJV

The Last Days will be days of great deception. Prior to the Lord's return, "evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived" (2 Tim. 3:13). Second Peter 2:1-3 prophesies of the "false teachers" who would arise within the church to deceive the unwary. Furthermore, the apostle Paul stresses the necessity of being on guard against the wolves in sheep's clothing who would "draw away disciples after them" (Acts 20:26-31). The "latter times" for the church, the Bible tells us, will be marked by "seducing spirits," "doctrines of devils," and "signs and lying wonders" (1 Tim. 4:1; 2 Thess. 2:6-10).

God does not want His children to be deceived by any means, so we must be on guard when Satan's ministers appear as angels of light and ministers of righteousness (2 Cor. 11:13-15). God has given us His Word to reveal and expose every devilish deception. He has given pastors as undershepherds of the flock to warn and protect the sheep against the wolves in sheep's clothing. We are not to be ignorant of Satan's devices (2 Cor. 2:11), yet multitudes are led astray.

In the name of unity, many are deceived by the ecumenical movement. In the name of the Holy Spirit, many are seduced by the Charismatic movement. In the name of evangelism and missions, many are willing to work with those who preach a false gospel. In the name of supposed scholarship, many are deluded by false translations of the Bible. In the name of church renewal, many substitute psychological manipulation for the working of the Spirit through the Word.

How can we identify deception? -- "To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them" (Isa. 8:20). Sincerity is not enough; popular acceptance is not the criteria; even speaking in supposed "tongues" or the performing of "miracles" does not validate what is of God, because the devil and his angels can produce counterfeit signs (1 Jn. 4:1). No, the only safe test of truth is the Word -- "the doctrine which ye have learned." God commands us to thus separate from those who espouse error -- "mark them" and "avoid them" (Rom. 16:17).

Satan will be performing miracles and wonders that will deceive many in the endtimes. The Bible tells me so. Very few will there be that will not be deceived and they will be persecuted; many killed. They will struggle to survive and will want for the very necessities of life for they will not have the mark to buy or sell. The rapture will not occurr to prevent their persecution, another minuplation of His Truth by Satan to deceive His People.

We are only beginning to see the signs of what is to come. Blackouts, disease, and violence by government is the future to expect. More and more will people turn to government seeking help and protection. They have no clue that it is actually the government and the economic system that is the tool used by Satan to destroy liberty and to attempt to destroy the worship of God and to eliminate even the mention of Jesus Christ. Christians will be readily identified when the tares and the wheat become obvious to all. Will you take the mark to feed your child, or will you allow that child to starve with you? We are assured that those remaining alive will see the anti-Christ. Can you see him now? Antichrists are all around and it is not only in human form. It is also a system. It is thru an economic system that Satan will briefly rule. It is an economic system that will allow Satan to exact his tyranny upon all in the earthly world. It is an economic system that will bring great hardship upon all who profess to Follow Him.

For those who fall for the wonders and miracles performed by false prophets of antichrist thinking it is the time of the rapture, there will be little hope. Their time will be short in which to repent and join those who endure until the end. That end may be untimely death at the hands of the antichrist system. We are told that few will be present for the Lord's second Coming and His Rapture of true believers. Paul wonders if there will be any at all. The true believer will find it difficult to survive, but God has also assured us that His Church will be here until the end, so we know that His Message will be preached even then. All this is simplification, of course, and Christians must study His Word and become adept at discernment lest evil deceive them even unto their own salvation. There will only be true disciples in existence and doing His Work in the very last days. All others will be of Satan and few will be saved then for they have denied The Son and the Father and the Holy Spirit and have worshiped the (marked) System of Antichrist. To deny Christ is to spend eternity in Hell, whether it be now or it be then. And that, according to Scripture, is the unpardonable sin.
